When the new Premier League season begins on August 17th, Arsenal will travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. The meeting will mark just the second time the two sides have opened the season against one another.

Also at Old Trafford, Alex Ferguson’s United thrashed Arsenal 4-1 with goals from Steve Bruce, Mark Hughes, Neil Webb, and Brian McClair. Unfortunately for the Reds, the win was not a precursor for what came next, as the club finished 13th in the league that year. An FA Cup triumph was likely the only reason Ferguson was not sacked.

Ruben Amorim is coming off a season in which his side finished 15th in the Premier League. The boss will need a fast start to calm the nerves of fans and club officials.

Of course, Amorim will have new weapons when the Gunners come to town. Matheus Cunha was confirmed as the first summer signing during the initial transfer window. The club is still working on a deal for Bryan Mbeumo, and is considering moves for Hugo Ekitike and Viktor Gyokeres. These proven players will provide a boost to the club right away, especially during a difficult first couple of months.

After Arsenal, United travel to Fulham, then host newly-promoted Burnley to cap a crucial opening month of the 2025/2026 season.

With no new striker yet signed, Joshua Zirkzee is expected to lead the line. Giving Zirkzee, Mbeumo, and Cunha the chance to build chemistry in non-competitive minutes could be valuable ahead of the season opener against Arsenal. […]
