Shortly after securing a huge home win over Real Sociedad, Manchester United found out their next Europa League knockout opponent: Olympique Lyon.

Lyon cruised past FCSB 7-1 on aggregate in the Round of 16. Manchester United beat FCSB 2-0 on the final matchday of the league phase behind goals from Kobbie Mainoo and Diogo Dalot.

Historically, United has only faced Lyon four times, all in the Champions League. The Reds have never lost, winning twice and drawing twice. Ruud Van Nistelrooy has the most goals in the series with three.

The first leg of the tie will be played at Groupama Stadium in Lyon on April 10. Manchester United received the advantage of playing the second leg at Old Trafford, which will be on April 17.

Should United advance, the winner between Rangers and Athletic Bilbao would be their semi-final opponent. Meanwhile, one of Tottenham, Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, or Bodo/Glimt would be the opponent in the Final in Bilbao.

Manchester United are one step closer to next season’s Champions League. Can Ruben Amorim’s side make it?
