The appointment of Ruben Amorim will not be enough to persuade Viktor Gyökeres to move to Manchester United if the Reds miss out on the UEFA Champions League.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, the ability to play in the Champions League will be a critical factor in the 26-year-old’s transfer decision this summer. The only remaining way for United to reach the competition is a triumph in the Europa League Final, as the Reds sit 14th in the Premier League with eleven matches remaining.

Should Gyökeres move to the English top flight, Arsenal now seems like the most likely destination. Mikel Arteta, like Ruben Amorim, desperately needs a prolific goalscorer to lead the line. With 54 goals in 56 league matches over the past two seasons, Gyökeres is the top option for clubs seeking a striker this summer.

Gyökeres previously played in England with Brighton, Swansea City, and most notably Coventry City. He established himself as one of the top Championship players at Coventry, earning his move to Sporting.

If Manchester United fail to sign Gyökeres, the club will have to turn to other options. Victor Osimhen has been linked to an Old Trafford move for several seasons, while fresh rumors have surfaced over Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Liam Delap has also been linked in recent months amid a breakthrough season at Ipswich Town.

Viktor Gyökeres would be an excellent signing for Manchester United, but the club has work to do to convince him to make the move.
