Manchester United are considering a summer move for young Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia after Andre Onana’s continued struggles.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper’s two mistakes against Ipswich Town nearly cost Manchester United more points and were the latest in a series of high-profile errors since he arrived from Inter Milan. These repeated mistakes have put Onana’s future at Old Trafford in doubt and stirred transfer rumors ahead of the summer window.
Spanish outlet Sport has reported that Manchester United have entered the race to sign Joan Garcia this summer from Espanyol. The former Spain U21 player is available for £25 million this summer, making him a reasonable option for a club strapped for cash.
Garcia has been a standout performer for a club sitting 15th in La Liga. He has four clean sheets in 25 appearances with 89 saves, the most of any player in the league. Despite facing the second-most shots in La Liga, Garcia has a 73% save percentage, an above-average mark.
Barcelona want to add Garcia this summer, but Espanyol’s sporting director has said that his club would resist any offer from Blaugrana in favor of sending him to the Premier League. Arsenal have long been admirers of the young keeper, while Manchester City are also considering a move.
