The 216th meeting between Manchester United and Liverpool may face postponement due to concerns about winter weather. The Met Office has issued an amber warning for most of northern England as heavy snow and ice are expected this weekend.
According to the warning, “travel delays on roads, [that could] strand some vehicles and passengers” and “delays and cancellations to rail and air travel” are expected. These safety concerns for those traveling to and from the match could lead to a postponement.
Liverpool had their Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park postponed due to Storm Darragh last month. That match will now be played on February 11th.
A lengthy postponement could suit Manchester United, as Ruben Amorim’s squad are in the midst of an incredibly poor run of form. The Reds have lost three straight Premier League matches since the 2-1 win in the Manchester Derby by a combined score of 7-0. The next league match for United would be Southampton instead of Liverpool.
Should a decision on the match need to be made, an emergency meeting could be called tomorrow morning to discuss the postponement.
Further details will be shared as soon as they become available.
