Only one player has debuted for Manchester United at the age of 16 in the Premier League. Angel Gomes played in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in 2017 at 16 years and 8 months. Now, there is another knocking at the door.

Godwill Kukonki, a 6-foot 5-inch 16-year-old center-back, could join the exclusive list alongside Angel Gomes if he plays in the Premier League before his birthday on February 8th.

Kukonki has been included in Manchester United’s squad in matches against Ipswich Town and Arsenal, making the bench in the latter match. While he did not make his debut, he may not have to wait long, given Amorim’s tendency to reward young players for positive performances.

At Sporting, Ruben Amorim gave 17-year-old Geovany Quenda his debut, a player the former Sporting man wants at Manchester United.

Kukonki has been one of the best academy players at United this season. In thirteen appearances, the young defender has a goal and two assists while also dominating opponents defensively. As a player who is comfortable as a left-back or left-center-back, he could be valuable to Amorim if he makes developmental strides over the next couple of years.

While Chido Obi-Martin has been stealing the headlines, keep an eye on Godwill Kukonki. Either way, the future is bright in Manchester.
