The reign of Ruben Amorim has officially begun in Manchester. The new boss has received his work visa and is taking charge of training with available players. He has also completed an interview with the club, providing insights into his philosophies.
While many focus on Amorim’s tactics, the 39-year-old has a different point of emphasis. When asked what drives his philosophy, the Portuguese manager provided a clear answer.
“In one word: team. The team is the most important thing for me. And if you work as a team, then the talent individually is going to shine. But if I have to explain the importance of everything, it is the character, the way we fight, the way we play, and we must have an identity. If our players take the shirt, they will know that it is the Manchester United team.
Everybody thinks the same, running back, playing, enjoying. This is what drives me. I can say the popular thing, which is to win.
Everybody wants to win and I want to win with my players, with the fans, but with an identity and one idea, that is the thing that I am focused on all the time.”
Amorim’s emphasis on the team as a unit is important for this version of Manchester United. Too often, especially in the attack, the Reds have relied on individual ability to get results. When those individuals are off, performances have faltered, leading to the poor seasons that have plagued the club since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
Ruben Amorim will lead Manchester United against Ipswich Town on November 24 at Portman Road. This will be the first opportunity for the new manager to show his tactics and emphasis on his ‘team.’
