The new Manchester United hierarchy wants to identify young talents and bring them to Old Trafford instead of buying the same players at a premium a few years down the line. One such player could be 17-year-old Chris Rigg, who has emerged as an incredible talent in a young Sunderland team.

A recent report from talkSPORT claimed that United are considering a move for Rigg as early as January, with the club wanting to move swiftly to not lose the player.

The England U17 international recently won Goal of the Month and Young Player of the Month in the Championship and has two goals already this season. Last season, Rigg made 21 appearances, scoring twice, at age 16.

Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and other Premier League clubs have shown interest in Rigg, but United seems the more likely destination at this stage.

If United pull off the signing, the 17-year-old will be added to a talented young core that the club is building. Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Hojlund are already first-team players. This summer, the club added defensive midfielder Sekou Kone and Arsenal’s Chido Obi-Martin. Rigg would become another key piece to the future of the club.

Chris Rigg would be a fantastic signing for Manchester United. The young star has a bright future and could make an immediate impact on the team in the second half of the season.
