Manchester United have joined the race for Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies and will make a run at signing the Canadian international, according to Florian Plettenberg. Davies will be available for free next summer when his contract runs out.
Real Madrid has always been the likely destination for the 23-year-old left back, but other clubs may attempt to hijack that move.
Davies has had a decent start to the season, though he remains off his best. His inconsistencies are less of an issue in the Bundesliga than they would be in La Liga or the Premier League.
Despite some on-and-off performances, Davies is as naturally gifted as any left back in the world. At his best, few can match his blistering pace, attacking abilities, and defensive intelligence.
Manchester United need a starting left back. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are unreliable at best due to injuries, and Diogo Dalot is better on his natural right side. Davies could be a great long-term option for that position should United persuade him to join.
Manchester United have also shown interest in USMNT international Antonee Robinson in recent months.
Would Alphonso Davies revitalize the left side of Manchester United’s defense?
