Erik Ten Hag has received a boost as Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund returned to training Wednesday.
Mason Mount featured in the first three matches this season but missed the most recent three through injury. Alongside Bruno Fernandes, Mount played a hybrid false nine role and contributed with high-energy pressing.
Rasmus Hojlund, who scored eleven times for the Reds in the league last season, has yet to feature this season. In the preseason match against Arsenal, the Dane scored but was removed after injuring his hamstring shortly after.
Hojlund’s injury occurred in the same match in which Leny Yoro hurt his foot.
Mason Mount will return to provide solid cover for the midfield, but the reintroduction of Rasmus Hojlund will be important. Having a second striking option available will add competition and options at the position that will benefit the team and players.
Joshua Zirkzee has impressed in flashes since he arrived in Manchester. His winning goal against Fulham provided a glimpse into what he can do for the club. Now, the Dutch international will have to fight with Rasmus Hojlund for the starting position, a battle that will hopefully push both players to improve.
The combined 10-0 score in wins over Southampton and Barnsley started a fire, and the additions of Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund will only add fuel to that flame.
