Five Reds were in action on the final matchday of the September international break. See how each fared and who got the night off ahead of the weekend.
De Ligt Struggles Again in Draw
Netherlands 2 Germany 2
Another Matthijs De Ligt critical error created the leveler for Germany. He was replaced at halftime with The Netherlands down 2-1. The new United signing had a difficult window for his nation and will need to improve his form at club level.
Joshua Zirkzee was an unused substitute and will be fresh for Saturday’s match at St. Mary’s.
Reds Sit as Harry Kane Leads England to Victory
England 2 Finland 0
Neither Kobbie Mainoo nor Harry Maguire played for The Three Lions today after both started against the Republic of Ireland. Both will be in contention to start Saturday, especially with De Ligt’s disastrous week for the Netherlands.
Former Red Angel Gomes had a solid first start for England. His development will be exciting to watch as he vies for a spot at the World Cup in 2026.
Harry Kane added to his international goalscoring tally with two decisive goals in the match.
Ivory Coast Ease to a Win Over Chad
Ivory Coast 2 Chad 0
Amad Diallo started on the bench and was introduced in the 61st minute. The 22-year-old’s influence was limited, however, he completed two dribbles and a key pass in his short outing.
Reims’ Oumar Diakhité and Paris FC’s Jean-Phillipe Krasso scored to secure a win for the Elephants.
Andre Onana Keeps Back-to-Back Clean Sheets
Cameroon 0 Zimbabwe 0
United goalkeeper Andre Onana kept an important clean sheet for his nation as Cameroon drew with Zimbabwe. The 28-year-old made five saves, including one from inside the box. His 7.6 Sofascore rating was the highest in the match.
Andre Onana will return to play against Southampton at the weekend. Hopefully, his two national team clean sheets this break will translate to more for Manchester United.
Lisandro Martinez and Argentina Fall to Colombia
Argentina 1 Colombia 2
Lisandro Martinez started and played 64 minutes before being substituted for Marcos Acuña. The 26-gear-old contributed with one last-man tackle, four duels won, and a 95% pass completion percentage.
Alejandro Garnacho was an unused substitute in the loss.
Manuel Ugarte Shines as Uruguay Collects a Point
Uruguay 0 Venezuela 0
Manuel Ugarte had a complete midfield performance for Uruguay against Venezuela. Playing the full 90, Ugarte had four tackles, three interceptions, and a clearance. He also won eight duels and contributed a shot on target in attack.
This kind of performance shows exactly why United pursued him for so long. He can be a difference-maker in the midfield and hopefully, we will see him paired with Kobbie Mainoo sooner rather than later.
