Manchester United midfielder Casemiro may still head to Saudi Arabia, albeit four months later than expected. According to inews, clubs in the Saudi Pro League will return to negotiate with United during the January transfer window in an effort to lure the Brazilian away from Old Trafford.
Casemiro is coming off perhaps the worst performance of his career, where his two disastrous mistakes provided two goals to rivals Liverpool. He was substituted at half-time for 20-year-old Toby Collyer, who made his Premier League debut in the defeat.
Reports this week suggested that Galatasaray wants Casemiro on loan, but the defensive midfielder desires to stay and fight for a place in Erik Ten Hag’s team. Any deal would also be complicated by the 32-year-old’s wages and the lack of depth United currently have in the midfield.
As Casemiro’s performances decline, United officials will become more interested in offloading him to allow room for a younger, quicker player. Fulham’s Sander Berge, Fluminese’s Andre, and Atalanta’s Ederson were all considered alongside Manuel Ugarte, who was signed on transfer deadline day.
The Southampton match on September 14 will likely see Manuel Ugarte start over Casemiro, beginning a new era for Erik Ten Hag’s midfield. However, with Manchester United in four competitions this season, Casemiro will still have plenty of opportunities to play, though Ugarte will see the majority of the playing time.
Should Manchester United cut ties with Casemiro in January, or keep him through the end of his contract in 2026?
