Manchester United are interested in bringing 17-year-old River Plate star Franco Mastantuono to Old Trafford. The Argentinian’s abilities have put him on the radar of several top clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

According to Marca, the Argentine seemed destined for Madrid this summer, however, the publicity around the proposed move has caused Los Blancos to back off. Real Madrid officials believe River Plate is trying to get other teams involved to increase Mastantuono’s price.

Manchester United must start to consider a succession plan for club captain Bruno Fernandes. The creative leader of the team turns 30 this year and may only be at the club for another couple of years.

It was already reported this summer that Manchester United considered selling Bruno before ultimately giving him a new contract until 2027.

Mason Mount’s signing has not panned out this far, as the former Chelsea star has struggled mightily with injury and form.

Mastantuono would be a great long-term solution for the #10 role at Manchester United. His intelligence on the ball at a young age sets him apart from his peers and he will only get better with experience.

While other positions may be prioritized in the January window, United may consider bidding then, or in the summer window.
