With less than two weeks left in the summer transfer window, time is running out for Manchester United to bring in a defensive midfielder. As talks with PSG for Manuel Ugarte remain ongoing, United continues to look at possible other targets.

Previously, Sander Berge and Danilo were named as targets for the Reds. While Berge remains an option, Danilo suffered a nasty injury in Nottingham Forest’s opener and will be out for some time.

According to the Spanish outlet AS, Manchester United remains in ‘constant contact’ with Atalanta over a possible move for Ederson. The 25-year-old moved to La Dea in the summer of 2022 and has since established himself as one of the best midfielders in Seria A.

Ederson played 53 matches in all competitions last season, scoring seven times. His strong play helped lead Atalanta to a Europa League title and a berth into this season’s Champions League.

Atalanta has set a price tag of around €60 million for the Brazilian as they try to hold onto the player. Liverpool, Arsenal, and Juventus have held an interest in the player who previously said that he is ‘curious’ about the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

Manchester United has good relations with the Italian club, as Rasmus Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford last season in a €74 million move.

Would Ederson be a solid partner for Kobbie Mainoo in the midfield?
