Fluminese midfielder André has emerged as an alternative option to Manuel Ugarte for Manchester United. PSG have been unwilling to budge on their €60 million valuation, which is a fee that United is unwilling to pay.

André is a strong, quick defensive midfielder and is seen by Brazil as their long-term replacement for Casemiro. He is a fantastic tackler who rarely has to go to the ground to win the ball. His speed allows him to recover balls and press effectively without being a huge liability. His passing through the lines needs work, but his other attributes make up for that shortcoming, and it can be improved.

The Brazilian international is also strong when driving with the ball, as his smaller frame makes him shifty and hard to stop. He is not a real threat in attack and only has three career first-team goals.

The 23-year-old’s only defensive issue is his height. At 5’9, he can be a liability in the air on set pieces. With United already shorter because of Lisandro Martinez, set pieces and crosses could be a real issue with two smaller defensive-minded players.

Previously, Liverpool believed that they had secured André’s services before the transfer fell through. Fulham has also expressed interest in the player this summer.

André’s move to Europe is long overdue. Will Manchester United make it happen before the transfer window closes?
