Manchester United means business under INEOS. The day that Leny Yoro was officially announced as a new signing, the club agreed to personal terms with top defensive midfield target Manuel Ugarte, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Ugarte is coming off a third-place finish in Copa America with Uruguay, where he scored the winning penalty against Brazil in the semifinal. After not being appreciated by PSG at club level, the former Sporting star is looking to move again.
A final transfer fee will still need to be agreed upon, and other clubs remain interested. Ugarte wants to move to United, however, despite the Reds failing to qualify for the Champions League this season.
Dan Ashworth and his team want to make Manuel Ugarte the third signing of an already busy summer. Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro have already filled two positional needs for the Reds, and Ugarte will fill the position alongside wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo.
If Manchester United sign Ugarte, only a left-back will be needed, and United can assess other areas depending on the funds available after offloading players. Getting signings in early will allow them more time to prepare for the season opener by going on tour and being with the team earlier.
Would Manuel Ugarte be a good signing for Manchester United?
