Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Girona over the transfer of 22-year-old Miguel Gutierrez. A new left-back is a priority for the Reds after injury issues and a lack of depth have left the position thin in recent years.
Last season, Erik Ten Hag was forced to play right-backs Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at left-back after Luke Shaw’s injuries. United had Sergio Reguilon on loan, but he left in the January window.
Miguel Gutierrez, a former Real Madrid youth player, made a name for himself at Girona last season, where he was a major force as they qualified for the Champions League. The Spanish left-back scored twice and assisted another seven in thirty-five La Liga appearances. He also showed that he can show up in big moments, as his two goals came in separate 4-2 wins over FC Barcelona.
Real Madrid is also interested in bringing the player back should they not pursue Alphonso Davies. Manchester United will have to wait and see what Real Madrid decide before any deal can be finalized. Los Blancos can re-sign Gutierrez for just €8 million and could even activate that clause to sell him for more to a team like United.
Could Miguel Gutierrez solve Manchester United’s left-back issues?
