Fan Highlights is a way for United Beyond Manchester to highlight the great fans of our beloved club. Every supporter is important, and we want to allow each one to have a voice, and share their special moments as a fan. All we do is ask the questions and the highlighted fan shares answers in their own words.

This week’s Fan Highlight is Rob (a.k.a BigRedDevils) from Manchester, England! You can find him on Twitter (X) at twitter.com/BigRedDevils and Facebook at facebook.com/ThereddevilsdailyMUFC!

Questions:

Q. How did you become a Manchester United fan?

“I was united from birth, literally. My mum didn’t really support football, but she got me United kits. Growing up in Manchester, everything was football. In school, we played football, and at home, we drew nets on the side of people’s houses to play. Also, David Beckham was my hero growing up.”

Q. What is your earliest Manchester United memory?

“My earliest memory has to be the treble and the famous words, ‘And Solskjær has won it!’ I was only young, but I feel like that is when I really knew what loving a team felt like. From that moment on, United became a part of my life.”

Q. What is your favorite Manchester United memory and why?

“My favorite United memory would have to be Rooney’s overhead kick against City. I remember watching it in disbelief. Another moment was the 8-2 game against Arsenal, and then, of course, the Champions League final penalty win against Chelsea. I remember thinking that we had lost, just to come back and win. There are too many incredible moments to list. Those moments can make you feel like nothing else matters.”

Q. Who is your favorite current Manchester United player and why?

“I have always liked Rashford and feel he is part of our community. His form has been poor, however I believe there is a brilliant world-class player in there. That being said, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are now pushing to be my favourites. The way they have come through the youth system and established themselves as some of the best players on a pitch full of superstars amazes me. A little shout goes to Bruno as well. He moans a lot but is always there fighting for us every game.”

Q. If you could bring one former player to the current team, who would it be and why?

“I would bring back Ronaldo, but hungry pre-Real Madrid Ronaldo when he played like he had something to prove. That Ronaldo was an unstoppable force. I would also consider Nemanja Vidic. We could use a leader like him at the back. He was hard-working and gave his all for the team.”

Q. If you could sign one player for the club this summer, who would it be and why?

“I’d say Mbappe, but he is an unrealistic choice. He can score for fun, plus it gives me the Messi/Ronaldo Real Madrid/Barcelona vibes, which I believe would push Mbappe to become even better to outdo Haaland. For a realistic choice, I would probably say Amadou Onana to add legs and strength to the midfield.”

Q. Where is your favorite place to watch matches? Who do you enjoy watching matches with the most?

“My favorite place to watch matches has to be Old Trafford! There is no other atmosphere like it, with so many fans all as one. The feeling of a last-minute winner that sends the club fans into mass excitement and the knowledge that everyone there feels the same way you do is a different feeling.”

Q. What else would you like fans to know about you or your love for the club?

“This club may be draining at the minute, but I have full faith that we will come good. Manchester United is a family, and we all are a part of it!”
