Ruben Amorim is no longer the manager of Manchester United. After fourteen months in Manchester, the club has decided to part ways with the 40-year-old.
The move comes after back-to-back draws against teams the Reds were expected to beat, as well as questionable comments from the Portuguese boss regarding his role and the club’s hierarchy.
Throughout his time at United, Amorim was a polarizing figure. His three-back system was a sticking point for the club and fans, especially when it was clear it wasn’t working. He also turned several fan favorites into outcasts, such as Kobbie Mainoo, though the young midfielder may now have a new lifeline.
Manchester United’s statement read:
“Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United.
Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.
Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.”
Manchester United will now begin the search for another permanent manager.
