Manchester United defeated Hong Kong behind a standout performance from young Chido Obi.
After getting booed off the field in Malaysia, Manchester United looked destined for another undeserved loss. A first-half goal from the host country meant Amorim’s side went into the break down 1-0.However, second-half substitute Chido Obi stepped up to score twice in the second half, before Ayden Heaven put the match out of reach in stoppage time.
Obi’s two goals were his first with the senior team, as the 17-year-old looks to impress Ruben Amorim ahead of the next season. An emphatic finish assisted by Manuel Ugarte and a beautiful flicked header in the 82ne minute completed the comeback for the Reds.
The late goal from Ayden Heaven meant that all three goals were scored by former Arsenal academy players. United secured Obi’s transfer late in the summer window last year, and Heaven’s in the winter window.
The match also marked the end of service for Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans, who got a long run out in Hong Kong.
Manchester United play Leeds United on July 19th, before heading to the United States for the preseason tour. The Reds face West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton in the three matches before the new season kicks off in August.
