Starting Eleven

Andre Onana: 2 – After making headlines for his comments on Lyon and his response to Nemanja Matic, Andre Onana made a critical mistake within the first half hour. His misreading of Thiago Almada’s set piece handed Lyon an early lead and fueled an already rambunctious home crowd. Then, in the 95th minute, Onana spilled a shot right in front of his net that Rayan Cherki scored to level the tie heading back to Old Trafford. Shocking.

Noussair Mazraoui: 7 – Mazraoui was called into action as a last man several times, particularly in the first half. If not for the Moroccan, Lyon could have had multiple first-half goals.

Harry Maguire: 6 – Maguire was solid, winning all four of his aerial duels, and was good in possession with a 95% passing accuracy. The English international continues to anchor the defense with Matthijs De Ligt out.

Leny Yoro: 9 – Speed. Power. Intelligence. Yoro continued his impressive stretch with another dominant defensive display. He also marked a return to France with his first Manchester United goal.

Diogo Dalot: 7 – Dalot put in an energetic display off the right as he attacked spaces left by Lyon and showed off his dribbling ability. The wing-back’s comfort level is improving, with Dorgu’s arrival allowing him to remain on the right.

Manuel Ugarte: 6 – Ugarte earned a somewhat fortunate assist on Leny Yoro’s goal, as the Uruguayan’s initial effort was a shot. Outside of his assist, Ugarte was lively and helped break up possession several times in the midfield.

Casemiro: 5 – Ruben Amorim continues to rely on Casemiro’s experience down the stretch of the season. The Brazilian had an up-and-down match, as he contributed multiple quality attempts going forward but was dribbled past six times.

Patrick Dorgu: 7 – Dorgu’s final product is improving, and he nearly assisted Garnacho. If United find a clinical striker this summer, the young defender could be working toward a ten-assist season.

Bruno Fernandes: 8 – Bruno’s confidence is sky-high right now, as evidenced by his audacious rabona pass that nearly led to a goal. His assist to Zirkzee was world-class and if United is to make the Semi-Final, he may need to conjure one or two more.

Alejandro Garnacho: 4 – Garnacho’s final product continues to be his downfall. He worked well off the right but failed to convert a golden opportunity created by Dorgu.

Rasmus Hojlund: 4 – Hojlund had his chances to score and failed to finish them. His scuffed shot in the 18th minute was that of a player lacking confidence. The Dane also struggled physically against the quick and strong defenders of Lyon.

Substitutes

Joshua Zirkzee: 8 – Ziekzee came on and made a difference. He fought for every ball, showing off his strength and speed, and found the back of the net with a perfectly placed header over Perri.

Mason Mount: 6 – Mount brought needed energy to the final minutes after coming on. His fiery exchange with Nicholas Tagliafico helped ignite the match late on. Mount’s value is showing, and he could be in line for a return to the starting eleven soon.

Kobbie Mainoo: 6 – Mainoo won the ball that led to Bruno’s cross to Zirkzee. His return comes at a perfect time with critical matches ahead, including next week’s second leg.

Victor Lindelof: 6 – Lindelof’s long ball over the top was cut out by a defender, but directly led to the Zirkzee header to give United the lead.

Man of the Match: Leny Yoro
