Starting Eleven
Andre Onana: 5 – Onana made one save after conceding early on Elanga’s finish. Could he have taken a better position? Maybe. Was the goal his fault? No.
Noussair Mazraoui: 6 – Mazraoui had an action-filled day in the back three. The Moroccan won six tackles, including two as the last man, but was also dribbled past four times.
Matthijs De Ligt: 6 – De Ligt was solid in the middle of the United defense, clearing seven times and winning three tackles. In attack, he probably should have done better with his chance that would have leveled the score in the 28th minute.
Leny Yoro: 7 – Yoro did not miss a beat while out injured and showed off his speed and reactions against Forest. After switching to Elanga’s side, Yoro kept the pacy former Red quiet and made a brilliant recovery tackle on him in the second half.
Diogo Dalot: 7 – Dalot was unfortunate to hit the crossbar with a well-placed header in the first half. He was comfortable on his natural right side and was frequently involved in the attack.
Manuel Ugarte: 4 – It was a poor outing from a typically reliable Ugarte. He was dribbled past three times, won just two of six duels, and lost the ball nine times. Amorim removed the Uruguayan at half in favor of a more attacking approach with Rasmus Hojlund.
Casemiro: 5 – Playing a pacy Nottingham Forest side, Casemiro struggled to keep up with the speed of the game. The Brazilian was decent in attack but failed to effectively break up transition opportunities from Forest’s quicker players.
Patrick Dorgu: 4 – Dorgu inexplicably stepped off of Anthony Elanga just as the Swede fired the hosts ahead early on. In possession, he was poor, giving the ball away cheaply multiple times with no pressure.
Bruno Fernandes: 7 – Bruno was everywhere and had two of United’s five shots on target. Unfortunately, he was unable to keep his goals/assists streak going despite being his side’s most influential player in attack.
Alejandro Garnacho: 5 – Garnacho did a lot, yet did nothing meaningful. The Argentine is a quick, technical attacker but his final product is far from quality. None of his six shots were on target and several of those shots came in good passing opportunities.
Joshua Zirkzee: 4 – Zirkzee was poor and was played out of the game by Forest’s stronger defenders. After Hojlund showed signs of life in front of goal for United and Denmark, the Dutchman was a questionable choice for this match.
Substitutes
Rasmus Hojlund: 6 – Hojlund should have started and connected play well after coming on. He should get the nod for the Manchester Derby on Sunday.
Christian Eriksen: 5 – Eriksen provided a couple of key passes late on but his set pieces were unusually poor.
Mason Mount: 6 – Mount nearly scored with his first touches of the game but had a quiet night after the opportunity. It’s good to see him available and playing again after repeated injury issues.
Harry Maguire: 6 – Maguire came in late as a striker and nearly leveled the match with a late shot that was cleared off the line.
Man of the Match: Bruno Fernandes
