Manchester United could make more money if Chelsea decide to back out of the obligation to buy part of his loan deal.
Jadon Sancho joined the Blues in August on an initial loan with an obligation to buy for £25 million. Since arriving in London, the 24-year-old has made 28 appearances, scoring twice and assisting six goals. Despite playing consistent minutes, the former England international has underwhelmed and received many of the same criticisms from his time at United.
The up-and-down performances have left Chelsea with a decision to make. If the club decided to back out of the deal, they would still owe United a large fee. However, the alternative would be to retain a fringe player on high wages and pay £25 million for him.
According to ESPN, should Sancho return to Manchester United, Ruben Amorim will decide whether to sell or keep him. The likely decision would be to offload him, meaning United would receive the back-out money from Chelsea and find a new suitor to pay a fee near the £25 million that Chelsea would have.
While the wages could become a roadblock, Sancho’s distaste for Manchester United has grown, exemplified by his “freedom” response to Marcus Rashford’s Aston Villa post. This aversion to the club could influence a decision to take less money to play consistent football. Saudi Arabia has been interested in the past.
While the scenario is hypothetical, Manchester United could make more money off Sancho this way, and this summer, every dollar counts.
