Starting Eleven

Andre Onana: 6 – Onana made two saves but was largely untested as United pulled away in the second half.

Noussair Mazraoui: 7 – Mazraoui has gone back and forth between wing back and center back recently but has played well at both. As a center back against Sociedad, the Moroccan helped keep Sheraldo Becker quiet and was nearly perfect in possession.

Matthijs De Ligt: 6 – His early penalty concession did not hurt the Reds, but his two defensive partners had better matches. The Dutchman still contributed with five clearances and a blocked shot.

Ayden Heaven: 7 – Heaven had a few shaky moments here and there but was brilliant overall in his first 90-minute appearance. He showed himself to be a viable option at left center back and earned a chance to play more often through the end of the season.

Diogo Dalot: 8 – A late goal capped a wonderful day for Dalot, who enjoyed the opportunity to play off the right with Dorgu available.

Casemiro: 8 – Casemiro was excellent in the midfield, controlling the pace of the game and breaking up Real Sociedad’s attack. After being criticized by Sir Jim Ratcliffe during the week, the Brazilian showed that he still has quality and can play at a high level.

Bruno Fernandes: 10 – Fernandes scored the second hat trick of his Manchester United career with two penalties and a controlled finish, leading United to a crucial UEL win. The captain was nearly flawless in all aspects of the game, as he also had four key passes and three tackles.

Patrick Dorgu: 7 – Dorgu had a poor first half but quickly rectified his play with a great second-half showing. The 20-year-old won a penalty and forced a challenge that put Real Sociedad a man down. If he improves his first touch and shooting, he will become a true force on the left.

Alejandro Garnacho: 7 Garnacho was dangerous every time he drove at the Sociedad back line. His late assist to Bruno Fernandes came from an intelligent, driving run on a counterattack.

Joshua Zirkzee: 7 – Zirkzee showed off his pace, speed, and dribbling ability with an excellent performance as an attacking midfielder. The Dutchman had four shots, including two on target, and three key passes, and was unlucky not to have an assist.

Rasmus Hojlund: 7 – Despite several great chances, Hojlund was unable to find the back of the net. However, his play was much improved, as he won a penalty and assisted Diogo Dalot’s stoppage-time goal.

Substitutes

Toby Collyer: NR – Collyer blocked a shot and intercepted a pass after entering for Casemiro with ten minutes to go.

Christian Eriksen: NR – Eriksen came on late and had a weak shot on target.

Man of the Match: Bruno Fernandes
