Starting Eleven

Andre Onana: 4 – Neither goal scored by Ipswich was a positive look for Onana, especially the miscommunication with Patrick Dorgu that gifted Jaden Philogene his first goal. Onana completed 9/26 passes for a measly 35% passing accuracy.

Leny Yoro: 7 – Yoro was quality on the left-hand side of the back three, showing his pace and strength to thwart attacks. He was also improved in possession and regularly pushed forward to support the attack.

Harry Maguire: 8 – Maguire provided United with a shock lead early in the second half when he connected with Bruno Fernandes’s corner kick. Defensively, the big center-back was a wall, clearing seven times, blocking three shots, and winning two tackles. After struggling against Everton, Maguire stepped up to help lead the Reds in the critical midweek win.

Matthijs De Ligt: 7 – De Ligt fought hard to earn his goal and was an overall threat on set pieces. He defended well despite playing on his less natural side of the defense.

Diogo Dalot: 5 – Dalot produced a decent performance with two tackles, two clearances, and three completed dribbles.

Manuel Ugarte: 6 – Ugarte was not as involved as he usually is, with Ipswich opting to attack more down the flanks. The Uruguayan had three tackles, drew four fouls, and won seven duels.

Bruno Fernandes: 8 – Bruno Fernandes recorded only one official assist, but he was instrumental in all three of Manchester United’s goals. His delivery for the first goal led to an own goal by Sam Morsy, who headed the ball into his own net. For the second goal, Fernandes’ corner kick created a shot on target for Harry Maguire, which ultimately led to the chance that Matthijs De Ligt converted.

Patrick Dorgu: 3 – Dorgu made up for an early error leading to a goal with some good play through the first half. Unfortunately, an ill-timed challenge ended his day early, and he was shown red before the halftime interval.

Alejandro Garnacho: 6 – Garnacho played well but had to be sacrificed by Ruben Amorim after the Dorgu red card at the end of the first half.

Joshua Zirkzee: 5 – Zirkzee found space to play out of in the attacking midfield role but struggled with his passing again, finishing the match with 67% accuracy. The Dutchman defended well from the front after the red card.

Rasmus Hojlund: 3 – Hojlund struggled again and only had 12 total touches in 67 minutes. He failed to get a shot off, lost all six of his duels, and completed just five passes. More performances like this from the Dane may lead to a start from Chido Obi soon.

Substitutes

Noussair Mazraoui: 6 – Mazraoui stepped into Dorgu’s role after the red card and was solid. He defended well and made a few forays forward in counterattacking opportunities.

Casemiro: 6 – Casemiro’s experience and defensive intelligence were important in the later minutes of the match. He lacks pace but is an asset in situations like the one United found themselves in against the Tractor Boys.

Christian Eriksen: NR – Eriksen came on in the final moments.

Victor Lindelof: NR – Lindelof came on in the final moments.

Man of the Match: Bruno Fernandes
