Sir Jim Ratcliffe is undoubtedly attempting to fix Manchester United’s financial woes, but his methods have been questionable at best. From laying off staff to removing Sir Alex Ferguson as a club ambassador, the 72-year-old has ruffled feathers of fans, players, and staff alike. His latest move, to take a post-season tour of Malaysia, will only bother the manager and his players more.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United will head to Malaysia for a post-season tour immediately following the final Premier League game against Aston Villa on May 25th.

While the anticipated £8 million earnings from the tour will help to navigate PSR, the trip will undoubtedly bother Ruben Amorim and his players. Tottenham and Newcastle United each took post-season trips to Australia after the 2023-2024 season, which were received poorly by the managers and players of each club.

Ruben Amorim took over at Manchester United during one of the busiest periods of the season. As a result, he has had to frequently rotate his squad to keep players fresh and prepared for crucial matches. Additionally, injuries to key players like Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, and Victor Lindelof in recent games have further complicated the manager’s efforts to rest certain players when necessary.

While extra training after the season will be beneficial as the players adapt to Amorim’s tactics, playing extra matches on top of an already-packed schedule will hurt players’ ability to recover ahead of the next season. That is especially true considering United plans to return to the United States for another pre-season tour, according to the Athletic report.

Generating revenue is essential for Manchester United to comply with financial regulations. However, prioritizing profit over the well-being of the players who contribute on the pitch can lead to a disconnect within the club.
