The Ruben Amorim era has officially begun, as the new manager now has his first match under his belt. Despite an unfamiliarity with the system, there were some positives to take away. The new manager has implemented his preferred system immediately, and while there is a long road ahead, the players responded well to Amorim’s direction.

Manchester United got off to an incredible start, with Marcus Rashford scoring inside the first 90 seconds. Amad Diallo burned Ipswich down the wing before playing a perfect ball for Rashford to tap into the net. The moment was marked with a non-celebration from Ruben Amorim, who gave a look to the camera that said: “I’m here now.”

After conceding, the hosts settled into the match, forcing Andre Onana into three first-half saves, including a fantastic stop on Liam Delap near the six-yard box.

The momentum created in the attack by Ipswich Town led to a leveler just before the half. Omari Hutchinson hit a curling effort from just outside the box that flicked off the top of Noussair Mazraoui’s head and into Onana’s net.

Onana was again forced into a quality save on Liam Delap in the early minutes of the second half. Delap got in behind the United back line on a cross and attempted an audacious flick, but the United goalkeeper made himself big and saved with an outstretched leg.

After being second-best for most of the first half, Amorim’s side improved in the second, but the decisive goal still evaded the visitors, and the match ended 1-1.

Ruben Amorim has been clear that Manchester United will play his way. After just a few training sessions, he rolled out his 3-4-2-1 formation. While the result was not what United fans or players would have wanted, there were positives to take into the first full week with a complete squad.

Manchester United hosts Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday before Everton visits Old Trafford next Sunday.
