Manchester United want to add Conor Gallagher as a midfield option during the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The club has tracked Gallagher since his Chelsea days, but may finally have a concrete opportunity to bring him to Old Trafford.

“Manchester United were interested in Conor Gallagher as an opportunity in the final days of August, but Atletico said no to a loan move and they don’t have that kind of intention,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“I think if maybe a permanent transfer proposal arrives, that would be different. Maybe something around 30 million euros (£26m), sources say that this could be the way to get Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window.”

Analyzing Conor Gallagher’s Potential Impact

Conor Gallagher, like Mason Mount, is a high-energy midfielder who can get up and down the pitch for a full 90 minutes. His box-to-box work rate is a quality that Ruben Amorim values and would allow him to play in the midfield two.

The Chelsea product is an excellent distributor, completing over 90% of his passes this season. He consistently looks to break lines or switch play rather than recycle possession, putting teammates in positive positions to attack.

While Gallagher’s goal involvements have been limited this season, he has still shown off his defensive ability. The 25-year-old reads the game very well, often finding ways to intercept or break up attacks. With Casemiro losing steam, especially in transition, a player like Gallagher could step in to provide the energy and intelligence needed in those key moments.

During his time at Chelsea, Gallagher proved he could both create and finish chances. In his final season before moving to Atletico, he produced seven goals and nine assists. Over the course of his full career, he has 32 goals and 31 assists to his name.

While Amorim has several higher-profile midfielders shortlisted, Gallagher is an interesting option for a mid-season transfer. His natural fit in the manager’s system could make him an excellent player for the Reds, and, considering the price, a relatively low-risk option.
