Manchester United looked like a team far from having what it takes to qualify for Europe next year in a 1-0 loss to Everton at Old Trafford.
Below are ratings for each Red who played in the loss.
Starting Eleven
Senne Lammens: 5 – Lammens faced just one shot on target, and it got past him. With his opposite number in excellent form, that lone goal proved decisive. The Belgian will undoubtedly feel he should’ve done better.
Leny Yoro: 5 – Yoro’s weak, stabbing tackle allowed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall the space to strike past Lammens for Everton’s goal. The young Frenchman played well after the error, but the mistake ultimately doomed the Reds.
Matthijs De Ligt: 5 – De Ligt struggled against Thierno Berry aerially, with the Frenchman consistently outmuscling him. He had an excellent opportunity to level the score, but rushed the shot and mishit the ball straight to Pickford.
Luke Shaw: 6 – With Lisandro Martinez’s return looming, Shaw played well. On the left side of the back three, he progressed the ball well, as evidenced by his 50 completed passes in Everton’s half and three key passes.
Noussair Mazraoui: 4 – Mazraoui offered very little going forward after Everton’s red card. His struggles led to Mount replacing him at halftime.
Casemiro: 5 – Casemiro struggled in the midfield and was a step behind while he was on the pitch. It was a poor performance compared to his recent good form.
Bruno Fernandes: 4 – Instead of being a creative force for United against a depleted opposition, Bruno was ineffective, often opting for a quick flick or long-range shot rather than the smart or needed play.
Patrick Dorgu: 3 – Dorgu missed a big chance off a quality Zirkzee cross. The Dane, who played well for his nation during the break, never got going in this one.
Bryan Mbeumo: 4 – Hopefully, Mbeumo just had an off day after a string of top-notch performances. The Cameroon international lost possession 23 times, failed to complete any of his three dribbles, and had just one shot on target against 10-man Everton.
Amad Diallo: 6 – Amad was lively, but could not find a final product. Everton handled the Ivorian well, forcing him into rushed decisions, turnovers, and hopeful crosses when he found good positions. Still, he was one of the few who consistently looked eager to make things happen.
Joshua Zirkzee: 5 – While Everton’s strikers strongly held the ball up against De Ligt, Yoro, and Shaw, Zirkzee did the opposite. He was outplayed by Michael Keane all evening, showing why Amorim has been so hesitant to play him. Zirkzee’s one bright moment was a well-placed header on target late on, but Jordan Pickford expertly turned it behind.
Substitutes
Mason Mount: 7 – Mount should have started from the beginning, as Amorim’s setup was too cautious considering the opponent. He nearly scored with a curling effort and should have registered an assist, but Bruno blew the chance over the bar.
Diogo Dalot: 6 – Dalot’s ability to cut in on his right foot made him more dangerous than Dorgu against the low-lying opposition defense. Had he been introduced earlier, the Portuguese international could have made a bigger difference.
Kobbie Mainoo: 5 – While a bigger threat than Casemiro, Mainoo was never able to get going after coming on.
Man of the Match: Mason Mount
