One thing we know ahead of Manchester United’s match against Chelsea is that Ruben Amorim’s tactics are not changing. After being dismantled by Manchester City, the Portuguese boss doubled down on his setup, saying, “I believe in my way and am going to play my way until I want to change.”
So, after four points in four games, who will Amorim fill his tactical setup with as the Reds look for three points at home?
Team News
Altay Bayindir started and struggled in the loss to Manchester City. In his four starts this season, he has conceded seven times and has not kept a clean sheet. The time for Senne Lammens to make his debut is now.
Lisandro Martinez is improving and could be ready to go in the next few weeks. For now, though, Luke Shaw, who was shockingly bad at the Etihad, will likely retain his spot alongside Matthijs De Ligt and Leny Yoro in the back line. Ruben Amorim could use Ayden Heaven to add more pace to the back line against the quick attack of Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea, but the young defender is more likely to feature from the bench.
Diogo Dalot missed the Derby after picking up an injury with the Portugal national team. He may not be ready to face the Blues, meaning Noussair Mazraoui should play wide again opposite Patrick Dorgu. Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro are both options to start alongside Bruno Fernandes in the midfield two, with the latter being the likelier option.
Amorim confirmed that Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount have returned to the squad. While either could start, it is more likely that they come off the bench. Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Benjamin Sesko are likely to start as the front three for a second consecutive match.
Possible Lineup
Goalkeeper: Senne Lammens
Defenders: Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt, Luke Shaw
Midfielders: Noussair Mazraoui, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Patrick Dorgu
Attackers: Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, Benjamin Sesko
