Starting Eleven

Altay Bayindir: 5 – Bayindir made three saves, but finished with a -0.6 goals prevented metric. Lammens should be given his shot sooner rather than later.

Leny Yoro: 4 – Yoro was caught on the wrong side of Jeremy Doku for the second goal, allowing the Belgian to slip Haaland through. The young defender has been excellent so far this season, but he struggled against City.

Matthijs De Ligt: 5 – De Ligt allowed Haaland to get behind him for City’s second. The Dutch international, however, was the best defender for the Rede, as he had five tackles, three clearances, and three interceptions.

Luke Shaw: 3 – Mistakes were the name of the game for Shaw. Doku dribbled past him with ease in Foden’s opener, and a poor pass led to City’s third. His one positive moment was a last-ditch tackle on Haaland, but overall, he was not good enough.

Noussair Mazraoui: 5 – Diogo Dalot’s injury made Mazraoui’s start a necessity. The Moroccan defended decently well with three tackles and two clearances, but did not offer enough going forward in the wing-back role.

Manuel Ugarte: 5 – Ugarte was on an island due to Amorim playing Bruno Fernandes deeper. The Uruguayan was not at his best, but still was solid in possession and made three tackles.

Bruno Fernandes: 5 – Fernandes can not keep playing in Amorim’s midfield two if United wants to win. The captain is not wired to defend, lost his mark on more than one occasion in transition. Bruno began creating a little bit more when he was moved forward, but it was far too little too late.

Patrick Dorgu: 5 – Dorgu was lively going forward, delivering seven crosses, but he struggled defensively against Bernardo Silva. His eleven duels won were the most on the team.

Amad Diallo: 5 – As energetic and direct as Amad was, he could not find a final product. He finished with just one shot off target and did not complete a single dribble against Josko Gvardiol.

Bryan Mbeumo: 5 – Mbeumo was the only Red to trouble Gianluigi Donnarumma, forcing a fine save with a full volley. However, it was one of just two shots on target in the match in a tame attacking performance for United.

Benjamin Sesko: 4 – Sesko was a lonely figure up front for most of his first start. Outside of a rather soft shot early in the match, he barely had a touch, while his counterpart, Erling Haaland, scored twice on five shots. The young striker will need better service if he is going to have an impact on this team.

Substitutes

Kobbie Mainoo: 6 – Mainoo was good after coming on and made several driving runs at the opposition back line. He deserves a shot in the starting eleven.

Harry Maguire: 3 – Maguire came on and gave the ball away under pressure to Bernardo Silva, giving the Portuguese midfielder an easy pass to Haaland for City’s third.

Casemiro: NR – Entered in the 80th minute.

Joshua Zirkzee: NR – Entered in the 80th minute.
