Five-time Champions League winner Casemiro is likely to move on from Manchester United at the conclusion of the current Premier League season.
After consistent rumors linking the Brazilian midfielder to Saudi Arabia, United decided against letting him leave this summer. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, there is a ‘concrete chance’ that he leaves when his contract expires next June.
Casemiro joined the Reds from Real Madrid in August 2022 for over €70 million. His staggering €21 million-per-year salary is the highest on the team, and United could do without paying that amount to a 33-year-old past his prime.
While he has produced some legendary moments, including assists to Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire to complete the dramatic Europa League comeback against Lyon, Casemiro has ultimately failed to live up to expectations. He was never able to establish himself as the midfield leader Manchester United needed, and has continued to struggle in a new role in Ruben Amorim’s system.
United brought in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens during the summer window but failed to reinforce the midfield. Interest in Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton stalled, though the club could revisit the young stars in future windows. That failure to add midfield options was likely the key reason Casemiro remained.
Could we see Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo together again at Al Nassr next year?
