During the initial, shortened transfer window, Manchester United acted swiftly to secure the signing of Matheus Cunha. Because of this, many believed the club could quickly move and complete more signings, the first of which would be Bryan Mbeumo. However, the transfer saga continues as Brentford hold firm in negotiations.

Manchester United have been locked in discussions with Brentford for weeks, but the London club will accept no less than £65 million for their star man. United’s first two bids have already been rejected.

Ruben Amorim and club officials reportedly want Mbeumo to travel for the preseason tour in the United States.

Fabrizio Romano provided a positive update on Friday via GiveMeSport, saying, “They’re trying, negotiations are still ongoing. Timing depends on Brentford, but the deal is on.”

United currently have two new signings set for the tour: Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, though only Cunha is expected to feature in the first team when the season begins. The club also completed a deal for Enzo Kana-Biyik this week, but he will head out on loan to Lausanne-Sport.

Adding Mbeumo to that group would be a major boost as United gear up for their first full season under Rúben Amorim. With no new striker yet signed, Joshua Zirkzee is expected to lead the line. Giving Zirkzee, Mbeumo, and Cunha the chance to build chemistry in non-competitive minutes could be valuable ahead of the season opener against Arsenal.

Manchester United face newly-promoted Leeds United on July 19th before matches against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton in the U.S.
