Alejandro Garnacho is unlikely to be a Manchester United player when next season rolls around.
According to ESPN sources, Garnacho’s representatives will meet with United officials soon to discuss a summer transfer move. The Argentine is unhappy with his role under Ruben Amorim and was vocal about his displeasure with his limited minutes in the Europa League Final.
One of the biggest issues for Garnacho under Amorim is positioning. As an out-and-out winger, the 20-year-old does not fit well into the manager’s system, and with little defensive skill, Garnacho cannot play a wing back role like Amad when needed.
Since making his debut, Garnacho has tallied 21 goals and 20 assists in 147 appearances. This season marked his most productive yet, as he hit double figures for both goals (11) and assists (10) for the first time.
Selling the Argentine player would provide a major financial boost for Manchester United. As a product of the club’s academy, any transfer fee would be recorded as pure profit, greatly improving United’s PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) position.
Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo are two other academy graduates the club could consider selling this summer under the same rule.
Manchester United rejected a €45 million bid from Napoli for Garnacho this winter. The Italian side remains interested, and he is reportedly one of their top targets. Clubs in Saudi Arabia, England, and Spain are also considering a move.
