It’s been a historic season for Manchester United—though not always for the right reasons. Domestically, they’ve set unwanted records with one of their lowest Premier League finishes and point totals. Yet in Europe, the Europa League has offered a silver lining, with thrilling matches, including a record for most combined goals, and a chance for redemption and additional records still ahead in next week’s Final.

Lowest-Ranked Domestic Team to Win the Final

Current Low: 12th – Sevilla (2022/2023)

No matter who wins the Europa League Final, this record will be broken. Manchester United and Tottenham currently sit in the bottom five of the Premier League, and neither side can finish higher than 13th.

Both teams have been pitiful this season overall, but have found ways to win and progress in Europe. Spurs beat Manchester United twice in the Premier League, yet still sit one spot lower in the table. The two teams have been so bad that in a more competitive season, they could be battling for safety.

If current places hold, Manchester United could win the Europa League while sitting 16th in the Premier League, somewhat shattering this record by four league positions.

Most Goals in a Europa League Season (Team)

Current Most: 37 – Porto (2010/2011)

Manchester United have scored 35 goals in the Europa League this season, just two off the record set by Porto. Impressively, 19 of the 35 goals have come in the knockout stages, including five in the famous win over Lyon at Old Trafford.

In the Premier League, United have averaged 1.16 goals per game. The Reds are averaging 2.5 goals in the Europa League, a significant difference and a key reason why their form has starkly contrasted in the two competitions.

With three goals in the Final, Manchester United’s strange season can get weirder, as this squad will have scored the most goals ever in a Europa League season.

Longest Unbeaten Run in Europa League

Current Most: 18 – Chelsea (2013-2019)

The unbeaten run record cannot be broken in this year’s Final. However, Manchester United can continue its run, maintaining the streak for the next time the club ends up in the Europa League.

United are currently 14 games unbeaten, a run that started with a 1-1 draw against Twente to open this season’s edition of the competition. The Reds have secured nine wins and five draws in the 14 matches under two different managers. Erik Ten Hag had two wins and three draws in five matches, while Amorim has been impressive, securing seven wins and two draws in his nine games in charge.

A Manchester United win in the Final would also see the club equal its own best winning streak in the Europa League of 15 games. That stretch occurred between 2016 and 2019 and included the 2017 win over Ajax in the Final.

Most Europa League Goals (Individual)

Current Most: 37 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Like the longest unbeaten run record, this is not something that can be broken in the Final. That is, unless Bruno Fernandes can score eight goals.

The Portuguese captain is currently third in the Europa League goalscoring record books with 27 goals. He trails Radamel Falcao, a former Red, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

United fans don’t want to see the club back in the Europa League, but if they do, Fernandes could beat this record with one more season in the competition.
