Manchester United travel to St. James’ Park on Sunday for a league match that means very little for the Reds. With the Europa League Quarter-Final second leg on Thursday, Amorim’s starting eleven could change, including a new man in goal and several moves to rest key players.

Team News

Ruben Amorim is considering dropping Andre Onana after a dismal performance in the 2-2 draw in Lyon on Thursday. According to Daily Mail, Altay Bayindir would step in goal should the Cameroonian be benched. Playing Bayindir on Sunday would give the Turk an opportunity to get minutes ahead of the critical second leg at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans are out, while Matthijs De Ligt and Ayden Heaven are close to returning but remain unavailable. Victor Lindelof could get a rare start with Harry Maguire a likely player to be rested.

Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen are candidates to start, allowing Casemiro and Alejandro Garnacho to rest. Casemiro has been a key figure for Amorim lately and will be needed at 100% on Thursday. Garnacho could benefit from a night off after struggling in front of goal.

After scoring off the bench in Lyon, Zirkzee could get the start with an eye on also starting Thursday. The Dutchman has been steadily improving and could lead the line for United down the stretch.

Amad Diallo could play again this season but not until at least May.
