Starting Eleven
Andre Onana: 7 – Although none of Onana’s three saves were particularly challenging, the Cameroon keeper secured a much-needed clean sheet. After being a fitness concern before the match, Onana appeared comfortable and delivered a solid performance.
Victor Lindelof: 6 – Lindelof needs to improve his positioning in Amorim’s system, but he was solid as United was without several starting defenders. The Swede may be forced to play more in the coming weeks after Heaven was added to the injury list.
Matthijs De Ligt: 6 – De Ligt was strong at the back, clearing six times blocking two shots, and winning two tackles. As others have fallen, De Ligt remains healthy and is playing some of his best football since he arrived over the summer.
Ayden Heaven: 8 – Heaven was excellent before going off injured in the 50th minute. The 18-year-old made three clearances, had two blocked shots, and a last-man tackle. He also showed impressive ability on the ball, completing several dribbles and defense-splitting passes. Unfortunately, his injury seems serious, as he was stretchered off the field after a few minutes of work by the medical staff.
Noussair Mazraoui: 6 – Mazraoui spent time at wing back and center back and did his job. Nothing more, nothing less.
Manuel Ugarte: 6 – Ugarte’s return is a welcome sign for Manchester United as he has been a critical piece in Ruben Amorim’s midfield. The 23-year-old won six duels and two tackles and was brought off at the 69-minute mark.
Bruno Fernandes: 10 – Bruno contributed three goal involvements for the second consecutive game after a hat trick against Real Sociedad. The club captain was the best player in the world this week with five goals and two assists in three matches.
Diogo Dalot: 7 – Dalot capped an excellent week with a perfectly placed cutback assist to his fellow countryman Bruno Fernandes.
Alejandro Garnacho: 8 – Garnacho put in a shift for United and was rewarded with a goal. He had three total shots on target and nearly had a goal earlier that was called off as he was marginally offside.
Christian Eriksen: 5 – Eriksen was uncharacteristically sloppy in possession and looked out of place alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Rssmus Hojlund. The Dane nearly scored a wonder goal with a curling rocket that hit the post following a set-piece situation but did not add much otherwise.
Rasmus Hojlund: 8 – Hojlund had an excellent week, assisting against Real Sociedad and breaking his goal drought with a cool finish against Leicester City. He nearly added another assist, but Garnacho was marginally offside.
Substitutes
Toby Collyer: 7 – Collyer showed off his versatility after Heaven’s injury as he came on and played right wing back. He excelled in the new role, completing four tackles, two interceptions, and winning six duels.
Harry Amass: 6 – Amass finally got a well-deserved debut for Manchester United and looked comfortable as a left wing back. After making the bench more often than not under Ruben Amorim, the 18-year-old will hope that this is just the first opportunity he will get this season.
Joshua Zirkzee: 5 – Many were surprised when Zirkzee did not start and he was quiet after coming on.
Casemiro: 6 – Casemiro’s experience helped a relatively young team close out the match with a clean sheet. He had five defensive actions in his 21 minutes.
Chido Obi: NR – Even as Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojkund improve their form, Obi stays around the first team. Hopefully, a first start will come before the end of the campaign.
Man of the Match: Bruno Fernandes (Again)
