Kobbie Mainoo is considering a move abroad as contract negotiations continue with Manchester United.

According to a report from The Guardian, the 19-year-old ‘is minded to reject’ a new contract at his boyhood club to pursue a move away from the Premier League.

Rumors of a move away by Mainoo heated up during the January transfer window, as he and Alejandro Garnacho were made available. While neither player left the club, Garnacho was close to joining former Red Scott McTominay at Napoli.

Chelsea have long admired Mainoo, but even if he does leave the club, it would not be to a Premier League rival.

Since his debut in the 2022/2023 season, Mainoo has made 60 first-team appearances, scoring six goals and assisting two. Impressive performances at the club level led to his England debut in March 2024 in a loss to Brazil and a central role in England’s run to the Euro 2024 Final.

If Manchester United do offload the 19-year-old this summer, the club could demand a fee of up to £70 million, which could help Ruben Amorim’s rebuild. The pure-profit nature of selling an academy graduate would also appeal to the club, as it could help with possible looming PSR issues.

Manchester United are still hoping to agree a contract with the talented young midfielder, especially considering Ruben Amorim’s belief in his potential. Fabrizio Romano previously stated that United are ‘relaxed’ about the contract situation, and the belief remains that Mainoo wants to continue at the club.

The next two months will be crucial in deciding if Kobbie Mainoo remains in Manchester or makes a high-profile move this summer.
