Chido Obi will not be involved against Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final, as he will instead be a part of the first team against Fulham on Sunday.
The 17-year-old forward has recently been promoted to the first team, playing in matches against Everton and Tottenham. Although he remained on the bench as an unused substitute in the game against Ipswich Town, it has been decided that he will not participate in the match against his former academy club.
Obi moved to Manchester United in October in what was described as a ‘major coup’ for the club. The young Dane was a major prospect for the Gunners and he has since become one of the stars of the United academy.
In three FA Youth Cup games this season, Obi has found the net seven times, including a hat-trick against Chelsea last round. He will surely be missed, and the scoring weight will fall on others such as James Scanlon, Gabriele Biancheri, and the Fletcher twins.
Chido Obi has impressed Ruben Amorim since joining the first team, and with Rasmus Hojlund struggling, more opportunities could be coming soon for the 17-year-old. Previously, Amorim has cited Obi’s danger on long balls, saying, “One long ball and he can make the difference.” Hopefully, he will get a chance to make the difference against the Cottagers on Sunday.
