From bizarre interviews to dreadful results, Ruben Amorim’s time at Manchester United has been disappointing thus far. While many of the issues are not the 39-year-old’s fault, the poor start to his tenure at Old Trafford has begun to stir talks of dismissal.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, United officials are ‘already thinking about a new replacement for its bench after the disappointing management of Ruben Amorim.’

‘Despite the concern in the club, the board has decided to keep him in office until the end of the season, unless a disaster occurs that forces him to take drastic measures ahead of time,’ the report continues. ‘However, in the offices of Old Trafford they have already begun to evaluate possible alternatives for the bench for the next summer market.

‘The goal is to find a coach who can return United to the elite of European football, something they have not achieved in recent years. Names like Zinedine Zidane, Thomas Tuchel or even the possibility of a return of Mauricio Pochettino could be on the list of candidates. Amorim’s future hangs by a thread and its continuity will depend on a substantial improvement in the coming months.’

Recent events will do little to aid Amorim in his attempt to keep control at Old Trafford. A recent training injury crisis led to just 12 senior players being available in the loss to Tottenham, with all but one spot on the bench filled with academy prospects.

While names like Zidane, Pochettino, Tuchel, and Xavi could excite Manchester United fans, Ruben Amorim deserves more time. The Portuguese manager is working with players built for a different system, and his only impact signing, Patrick Dorgu, has made just two appearances so far after arriving in January.

The manager himself has tempered expectations from the start and has even called his side the “worst, maybe, in the history of Manchester United.”

Yes, Ruben Amorim has failed to meet supporters’ expectations, but so have many current players for multiple seasons. Amorim needs time. Hopefully, the club will give it to him.
