While Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia secured loans during the January transfer window, Casemiro was one outcast Manchester United player who remained at the club.
A reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr failed to materialize before the January transfer window closed, despite the deal seeming likely and both sides wanting the move.
While many leagues can no longer add incoming transfers, the Brazil Serie A’s current window is open until February 28th, and according to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Casemiro moving to Brazilian side Flamengo is a possibility.
“I can assure you that Flamengo investigated the player’s situation in the last few days. The English club agree to loan him and help with part of his salary. Filipe Luis would love to count on Casemiro,” Nicola said.
“Flamengo understand that, given all the figures, it is a very risky business. Even though United are willing to help with most of the salary, there would still be a very high amount to be paid.”
Flamengo are trying to win the Brazilian Seria A for the first time since the 2020 season, and adding Casemiro would be a bold, high-profile move to push the club closer to that goal. The Mengão are also the current holders of the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Carioca.
Flamengo will cover some of the 32-year-old’s salary should he join, saving United a little bit of money through the end of the season.
