With a 2-0 win over FCSB to conclude the league phase of the Europa League, Manchester United secured third place and an automatic spot in the competition’s Round of 16.
The Reds completed the eight league matches with a total of eighteen points, remaining the only team not to lose a single match. Their impressive start to the competition included a run of five consecutive victories against PAOK, Bodo/Glimt, Viktoria Plzen, Rangers, and FCSB, positioning United as one of the favorites to win the title.
The third-place finish means that United will not have to face the top two teams, Lazio and Athletic Club, until at least the Semi-Finals.
The four teams that Manchester United could face in the Round of 16 are: Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar, and Midtjylland.
The Round of 16 draw will take place on February 21st, the day after the knockout phase’s second legs.
