Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel has emerged as one of the most sought-after players during the January transfer window. Rumors surrounding him have intensified as the window approaches its conclusion.

At 19, Mathys Tel has already made 93 first-team appearances at Stade Rennais and Bayern Munich and has scored sixteen goals to go with seven assists. However, instead of carving out a larger role in Munich, Tel has seen his opportunities diminish in the 2024/2025 season, leading to a desire to leave for a shot at a consistent starting role.

Tottenham were in pole position to sign him and had agreed a fee with Bayern Munich, but the 19-year-old rejected the club after not being convinced of the club’s project. Now, other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, are jumping at the chance to sign the Frenchman.

Journalist Christopher Michel confirmed United’s efforts on X, saying, “#MUFC is now working hard on a transfer for Mathys Tel and Tel, who has been on the club’s list for some time, is very interested. A loan with an option to buy would be the preferred model from the Manchester.”

United’s sole outgoing transfer has been Antony on loan, while Patrick Dorgu is set to arrive in Manchester over the weekend. With minimal activity on the outgoing side, the club has limited funds available for further signings. Thus, a loan with an option to buy appears to be the most feasible option for acquiring Tel during this transfer window.

Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in signing Tel before the deadline on February 3.
