Starting Eleven

Altay Bayindir: 6 – Bayindir made six saves in the match and was unlucky not to have a clean sheet. He conceded a goal to Dessers that he had no chance of getting to after the striker beat Maguire. The Turkish keeper is certainly beginning to put pressure on a struggling Andre Onana.

Leny Yoro: 6 – After a few difficult matches for Yoro, the 19-year-old showed improvement against Rangers. He defended well and showed his quality in possession, completing 92% of his passes.

Matthijs De Ligt: 6 – De Ligt had a solid half before being removed at the break. The Dutch defender helped to break up the visitors’ counterattacks, contributing with an interception, a blocked shot, and a tackle. He also should have been given a goal that was disallowed for a soft foul call.

Lisandro Martinez: 7 – Lisandro Martinez defended well all match, but it was his attacking contribution that stood out the most. The Argentine center-back played in a stunning cross that Bruno Fernandes scored to give Manchester United a late win. If Martinez has space to play a ball in, he can be deadly.

Amad Diallo: 6 – Amad was, as always, a bright spot for Manchester United in attack. He missed a great opportunity to open the scoring but was an ever-present threat to the Rangers back line.

Toby Collyer: 7– After an early giveaway that nearly gave the visitors a lead, Collyer settled in nicely and ran the midfield well for the remainder of the match. His maturity in possession is incredible for a player who has played limited minutes at the top. The 21-year-old completed 94% of his passes as he moved the ball from side to side while breaking the midfield lines multiple times. Expect Collyer to receive more starts going forward.

Christian Eriksen: 6 – Eriksen was unlucky not to have at least one assist, as he created multiple chances for teammates. Overall, the Dane played well and made the most of his spot start.

Diogo Dalot: 6 – Dalot had a good match, contributing three key passes and adding four clearances defensively.

Bruno Fernandes: 8 – Fernandes was by far the most influential player against Rangers, totaling triple-digit touches with 100. The captain stepped up when his team needed him to, scoring a winning goal in stoppage time to guarantee the Reds advance to the Europa League knockout rounds.

Alejandro Garnacho: 7 – Garnacho was unlucky not to score, as he had two shots saved and hit the woodwork. He quieted the noise around his potential transfer by remaining focused and putting in a quality performance for Ruben Amorim.

Joshua Zirkzee: 5 – Zirkzee had a decent match and nearly scored but saw his shot blocked from close range. However, his ten turnovers to six completed passes hurt the flow of attack at times.

Substitutes

Harry Maguire: 4 – Maguire had a rough second half after coming on for De Ligt. He missed a perfect opportunity to put United up by two on a Christian Eriksen free-kick and was at fault for the goal that Rangers scored.

Tyrell Malacia: 6 – Malacia came on and defended well, contributing two clearances and completing all three of his long balls. Amorim’s message remains clear, though, that the Dutch defender will not receive much playing time despite being the only available left-footed left-back.

Kobbie Mainoo: 6 – Mainoo’s 16 minutes on the field were quality, as he completed all twelve of his passes and drew a foul. Look for the 19-year-old to return to the starting eleven on Sunday.

Manuel Ugarte: 5 – Ugarte struggled coming off the bench. He made an error that led to a shot on Bayindir’s goal and was dribbled past twice in limited minutes. Manchester United needs the Uruguayan to find form again after an incredible start under Ruben Amorim.

Rasmus Hojlund: NR – With Zirkzee starting back-to-back matches, expect Hojlund to rotate in against Fulham.

Man of the Match: Bruno Fernandes
