Amad Diallo stole an otherwise unspectacular show with a late hat trick to lead Manchester United to three points. With the heroic performance, Amad earned a perfect rating, while many other Reds struggled.

Starting Eleven

Andre Onana: 7 – Onana’s first-half saves kept United in a match that could have gotten out of hand early. A double save on Tyler Dibling and Mateus Fernandes was especially important in the 27th minute, and he finished the match with five total saves.

Leny Yoro: 3 – Yoro will have nightmares about Kamaldeen Sulemana. The French defender was consistently beaten by the Southampton winger, highlighting that despite his potential, he still requires significant development.

Matthijs De Ligt: 7 – De Ligt was United’s best attacker, winning all of his duels and clearing six times. The Dutchman added three interceptions and two blocked shots as he returned to the middle of the back line with Maguire coming off the bench.

Lisandro Martinez: 6 – Martinez was solid, clearing five times, intercepting once, and blocking a shot.

Amad Diallo: 10 – Even before scoring three goals, Amad was United’s most dangerous attacker. He pushes forward and attacks defenders at pace, putting them off balance and causing them to sit deeper. When United needed a goal, he provided and then added two more, including a brilliant reaching volley. He is already providing incredible value after signing his new contract last week.

Kobbie Mainoo: 4 – Mainoo was caught out several times, allowing Southampton to break at the Manchester United back line. In his one half, he failed to win any of his five duels and was unable to add any threat going forward. Amorim opted to remove him at halftime in favor of Antony.

Manuel Ugarte: 5 – Ugarte’s own goal was unfortunate, but he struggled throughout the match. Southampton dominated the midfield, and it was not surprising that Ugarte was substituted early in the second half, quickly following Mainoo to the bench.

Noussair Mazraoui: 6 – Mazraoui was pinned back in the first half by a dynamic Southampton attack. However, he grew into the match and contributed three key passes, six tackles, and three clearances.

Alejandro Garnacho: 5 – If Garnacho had scored his big chance early on, the match could have looked a lot different. His first half was poor, but he improved as the game went on and should have had an assist to Antony.

Bruno Fernandes: 6 – While Bruno failed to score or assist, he had a positive impact on the attack. His five shots were the second most of anyone on the field, and he also added three key passes.

Rasmus Hojlund: 3 – Hojlund created a chance that Garnacho should have finished early on but was otherwise outworked and outmuscled. He did not offer any goalscoring threat and did not hold up play well enough to help United break forward.

Substitutes

Antony: 5 – Antony provided danger after coming on but failed to finish a massive opportunity to level the match.

Toby Collyer: 7 – Collyer was composed in the midfield and commanded play well as a pivot. He lost possession just once in his 36 minutes while completing 95% of his passes.

Joshua Zirkzee: 6 – Zirkzee was an immediate improvement to Rasmus Hojlund when he came on. The Dutch striker held the ball up well and switched play skillfully while adding a few quick flicks that set up shots. This performance was a positive follow-up to his heroics against Arsenal.

Harry Maguire: 6 – Maguire came on late and was largely untested in his 13 minutes.

Christian Eriksen: 7 – Eriksen does not have the legs to run United’s midfield for 90 minutes, but he still has the ability to produce moments of magic. His brilliant chipped pass set Amad up perfectly to give the Reds a late lead.

Man of the Match: Amad Diallo
