Since INEOS has taken over the footballing side of Manchester United, the club has aimed to find young talent that can be brought in for development. Leny Yoro, Chido Obi Martin, and Sekou Kone were acquired last summer, while a transfer for talented young left-back Diego León has already been completed. The 17-year-old Paraguayan will arrive at Old Trafford in July 2025 in preparation for the 2025/2026 season.
The next young star that United may pursue is Christian Ordonez. The 20-year-old midfielder has been on the club’s radar since last year and would not break the bank. According to local outlet Velez670, Velez Sarsfield is expecting a bid from Manchester United during the January transfer window.
Ordonez is viewed as the perfect replacement for Casemiro, who is expected to leave Old Trafford this month to join a team in Saudi Arabia. Although the specific club has not yet been confirmed, Casemiro is expected to reunite with former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr.
In 48 appearances across all competitions last season, Ordonez scored one goal and provided five assists. As a natural defensive midfielder, his most significant contributions were in breaking up play in the midfield and protecting the backline. Despite his age, Ordonez played an integral role in helping Velez Sarsfield win the league.
Any transfer for the Argentine would likely require his €10 million release clause to be paid, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. Brentford, Bologna, and River Plate are also interested in the midfielder.
Should Casemiro be sold in the coming days, a transfer for Christian Ordonez could follow quickly as Manchester United prepares for the second half of the season.
