Ruben Amorim’s appointment at Manchester United means that every position will be assessed to determine whether players will fit the new system. Two critical positions in the 3-4-2-1 are the wing-backs, and Amorim has already tried multiple players on each side. Should Amorim decide an upgrade is necessary, a reunion with Pedro Porro may be pursued.

According to a recent report from AS, via SportWitness, United could provide competition to Real Madrid and Manchester City for Porro’s signature. Los Blancos remain the likeliest destination, but they also have their eyes set on other players, such as Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Porto joined Tottenham for €40m in 2023 after a year on loan from Amorim’s Sporting. Since joining Spurs permanently, the 25-year-old has five goals and eight assists and is now regarded as one of the top right-backs in the league.

Ruben Amorim managed Pedro Porro for two and a half seasons at Sporting CP. The AS report describes the pairs’ relationship as “excellent at all levels.” Like with current Sporting players, a relationship with the manager could be a deciding factor in a move to United versus elsewhere.

So, should Manchester United move for Pedro Porro?

Yes, but only after current weaknesses are addressed. Amorim has several positions to evaluate, and other areas of the team need upgrades more urgently. Budget constraints will make it difficult to make significant additions in the upcoming transfer windows, leaving limited opportunities for major signings aside from the essential needs.

However, if the funds are there and the areas of need have been addressed, Pedro Porro would be a fantastic player to add as a wing-back. A move for Geovany Quenda may be preferred, but Porro brings Premier League experience and a great relationship with Ruben Amorim.
