The Ruben Amorim era at Manchester United starts Sunday as the Reds face Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town.

Amorim has emphasized how this United team will be his from day one, leading us to believe he will use his 3-4-2-1 system immediately. He also confirmed that his team “will play a different type of football” in his pre-match press conference.

The lineup expectations below are for a 3-4-2-1, with a second possible lineup for a 4-2-3-1 at the end.

A major piece of Amorim’s back three will be Leny Yoro, who was withdrawn from the U21 match against Altrincham in preparation for the trip to Portman Road, according to MEN. Matthijs De Ligt will presumably take his spot in the heart of the back three, while Luke Shaw could make his season debut on the left side of the defense.

Also available in the back will be Jonny Evans, who brings experience and stability if called upon by Amorim.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui should take roles as the wingbacks in the early stages of Amorim’s reign. Mazraoui has been one of the best performers for the Reds this season, and he, alongside Dalot, will be critical in the new formation.

Tyrell Malacia may be available off the bench for the first time in two seasons. Fans will be calling for his return to the pitch if there is an opportunity in the second half.

Kobbie Mainoo is set to return to action after being sidelined with an injury. He is expected to pair up with Manuel Ugarte in the box-to-box midfield positions. Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Mason Mount will be available as substitutes. Mount, in particular, may thrive under the new system, as his dedication to working both on and off the ball is likely to impress the new manager.

Amad Diallo has been performing exceptionally well lately and deserves a position alongside Bruno Fernandes, just behind Rasmus Hojlund in the attack. Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho would start on the bench, marking a bold decision for Ruben Amorim in his first match as head coach.
