Uruguay sealed a critical win over Colombia through a last-gasp Manuel Ugarte goal.

In the 11th minute of stoppage time, Ugarte scored by placing the ball into the bottom left corner of the net, putting his side up 3-2. The 23-year-old midfielder’s goal was assisted by former Red, Facundo Pellistri, marking his first-ever goal for his country.

Colombia believed they had earned a draw after Andres Gomez scored in the 6th minute of stoppage time. However, Ugarte’s goal dashed that hope and provided Uruguay with revenge for their Copa America loss in July.

Manuel Ugarte has been steadily improving week by week for Manchester United since his summer transfer from PSG, and he has established himself as a key enforcer in recent matches. With Amorim taking over, Ugarte will be a familiar presence, and his form is sure to impress his former manager.

The winner took La Celeste to 19 points in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers, moving them past Colombia on goal differential.

Uruguay travels to play at Itaipava Fonte Nova Arena against Brazil on Tuesday. After coming off the bench to score, Ugarte will likely start in the battle of South American heavyweights.
