On Wednesday, Ruud Van Nistelrooy took the reigns at Manchester United for the first time against Leicester City after Erik Ten Hag was sacked. The former United striker made quite the impression, as the Reds scored five and won comfortably.

After a positive start, Casemiro blasted a strike from distance into the back of the away net in the 15th minute. Interim manager Van Nistelerooy was immediately shown in a stunned celebration after the incredible goal.

Alejandro Garnacho added a second in the 28th minute. Diogo Dalot slipped behind the Leicester defense and hit an early cross that was finished exquisitely by the Argentine.

Just minutes after the Reds scored, Leicester hit back. A poor punch from Altay Bayindir presented Bilal El Khannouss with an opportunity, and the young Moroccan struck the ball past the United keeper.

Manchester United immediately restored the two-goal lead after a Bruno Fernandes free-kick took a massive deflection past Danny Ward. Three minutes later, Casemiro added his second, making it 4-1 inside of forty minutes.

Poor defending from Manchester United gave Leicester a glimmer of hope in first-half stoppage time, as Conor Coady scored their second goal.

Leicester City put heavy pressure on United early in the second half, but the Reds weathered the storm well. A mistake at the back from the visitors presented Bruno Fernandes with an opportunity, and the captain rounded the keeper to finish and restore the three-goal lead.

After the fifth, United cruised to a 5-2 victory to kick off the post-Erik Ten Hag era.

The defensive issues are glaringly prevalent, but a five-goal performance is a welcome sight for United fans. Whether or not he is in charge at the weekend, Ruud Van Nistelrooy will be proud of this win and the attacking display.

Manchester United hosts a resurgent Chelsea team on Sunday at Old Trafford.
